Say it Ain’t So!! Goode Company Barbeque set to open new location on US Hwy 290 at FM 1960!!

Projected to open October 2008

We are happy to announce that we have broken ground on our newest Barbeque location, Goode Company Barbeque #3, on the outbound side of US Hwy 290 at Wortham Center Dr. (just west of FM 1960/290 intersection.)

With practically no restaurant experience, and very little money, my family opened Goode Company Barbeque on Kirby Drive, back in 1977. From the very beginning, we promised ourselves to serve-up nothing but the best – the quality had to be right! We went the extra mile, baking our own breads and pies, making and smoking our own sausage, and perfecting our own sauces and spices. We applied that same philosophy to Mexican food and Gulf Coast seafood. Since we started over 30 years ago, our business has grown from a 40 seat barbeque place near downtown, to six restaurants (including gulf coast seafood, and Mexican food) through out the Houston area. We are still a family owned and operated business from Houston and we are as Texas as they come! Stop on by for a true Texas experience.

-Levi Goode

Our newest location will be a 9100 square foot BBQ joint that will look like an old general trading store and will feature:

  • A large covered patio
  • Live Texas guitar music on alternating weekends
  • BBQ and grilling demos
  • Meat counter with in house dry aged steaks, smoked jerky, grill and BBQ ready meats, both cooked and uncooked, a full line of seasonings and sauces, BBQ and grilling woods
  • Ice cold longnecks
  • A private party room
  • A True authentic Texas atmosphere decorated with turn of the century cowboy collections and a “Tribute to the American Indian” display that would make Buffalo Bill feel right at home
  • Plenty to do for the kids including an old style Texas kid’s playground

Goode Company Barbeque has been touted as the best in the nation by customers and critics alike. There are over 30 years invested in perfecting our recipes and knowing what makes that perfect plate of BBQ. We go by the philosophy that we are only as good as our last plate of BBQ served, and our newest location will be no exception. When you come to Goode Company, you can expect a great plate of BBQ each and every time. We understand the needs of our customers and strive to exceed customer expectations each and every time that a customer walks through our doors.

We will be a family friendly environment serving up great mesquite smoked Texas BBQ, with sides made from scratch, along with ice cold longnecks, through a cafeteria-style line. Occasionally, on the weekends we’ll have a live Texas guitar picker on the patio. The kids are sure to enjoy the Texas-themed playground while the parents can kick back and relax with an ice-cold beer, Goode food and great music. So whether you’re bringing the boss over for a great Texas BBQ lunch or bringing your family out for dinner, we are your place!

Why does our BBQ taste so Goode? We make all of our own sausages from scratch daily and offer several varieties. We bake all of our own breads and pies in our kitchens fresh daily. We make and blend all of our own seasonings to season our meats. We smoke our meats the ol’ fashioned way with fresh mesquite wood and take our sweet ol’ time, often smoking our brisket for 20 hours or more. We are the real deal so don’t spend your hard earned money on anything less!

What people are saying...

We believe that recognition is obtained through hard work and dedication. Over the years, our hard work and dedication in providing the best possible products have not gone unnoticed. As our motto goes, “you’re only as good as the last plate of food served.” Year after year, Goode Company Barbeque continues to be the focus of national media attention and we’d like to share some of the comments made by others:

"Goode's barbeque has been selected over and again by newspapers such as the New York Times and USA Today as among the best in America . . . . Regularly chosen the best in Houston."

"When they say 'barbecue' in Houston, this is what they're talking about. Chicken, brisket, duck and pork-eaten if you choose with jalapeno cheese bread. Finish it off with pecan pie and you've had a real Texas meal."

"Best Barbeque in Houston", noting the "expertly smoked brisket." Houston Chronicle restaurant reviewer Alison Cook once wrote that "this barbeque place is a bastion of quality."

"Sink your face into a plate of jalapeno-flavored pinto beans and slow-cooked (over mesquite wood) chicken, ribs, brisket or sausage."

"The native cuisine . . . a starving carnivore's delight."

"Jim Goode knows as much about barbeque as most any man alive" and the magazine called the barbeque "definitely hearty, straightforward and fun."

Houston City Magazine

"Houston's best all-around barbeque joint."

From the Houston Chronicle's "we recommend" list:
GOODE COMPANY BARBEQUE, 5109 Kirby (SW2), 713-522-2530; and 8911 Katy Freeway (SW3), 713-464-1901. Jim Goode’s sliced brisket sandwich on house-made jalapeno-cheese bread is a modern barbecue classic. Just about everything else in this Texabilia-crammed neo-joint upholds the state's honor, too: Czech sausage, duck, turkey and the lush pecan pie. (Bought whole, this pie makes one of Houston's best souvenirs.)

From the Houston Chronicle Dining Guide:
Most out-of-towners look for a sampling of cowboy culture, so there's no better place to take them than Goode Company Barbeque, 5109 Kirby. The small interior is decorated with mounted cow heads and historic photos; authentic country-Western music blares on the loudspeaker; and employees wear T-shirts emblazoned with 'You might give some serious thought to thanking your lucky stars that you're in Texas.' The place is famous for sliced brisket on house-made jalapeno bread; the sliced turkey is a good choice for the health conscious. But save room for pecan pie."

Culture

While food quality is #1, and probably the most important to the majority of customers, we have always strived to show the customer a complete quality package. This includes atmosphere, music, and menu items that not only compete on the highest levels, but go further than the competition would bother to go in creativity and in the way we prepare traditional standard items with a new perspective. This extra bother is what has separated Goode Company Barbeque from the rest, and this difference is recognized by the thousands of quality conscious customers we serve daily. This difference ensures return business. These efforts from managers, cashiers, line servers and smoke masters guarantee our longevity.

At Goode Company no one takes food quality for granted. Every food product and ingredient must be checked, from delivery, to preparation, to final destination: the table. Our customers are here to receive the best and nothing less. We shoot for 100% - the best plate and the best service, because we know we are judged every time a plate is served.
